Avocent
provides the extension technology to remove Trader's PCs from
end-user desks, and securely relocated to a central data center
in a rackmounted configuration, without limiting user performance
or functionality. The Cstation employs a unique extension
technology intended specifically for demanding users who require
no loss of functionality and performance. Unlike other backracking
solutions, the Avocent Digital Desktops solution literally
extends a computer’s PCI bus rather than a KVM extension
to provide the only completely digital extension technology
that safeguards the user functionality while centralizing
all IT tasks.
The Issues You Face: |
- Centralized Security and Control
The lack of centralized management within your systems adds
to the workload of technicians and IT administrators. The
necessity of desktop maintenance for upgrades and general
administration is timely and costly. Centralized maintenance
of PCs is needed to centralize IT administration and secure
physical and data assets.
- Distance Limitation, Moves/Adds/Changes
Your technical teams require the ability to quickly and
efficiently perform M/A/Cs without disrupting end-user workflows,
and frequently distance from one desktop to another causes
limitations to flexibility.
- Flexibility and Open Architecture
A company's IT staff needs to manage more devices more effectively
with less cost and less risk. A solution can be inflexible
for many reasons: inadequate access, inability to deploy
off-the-shelf solutions, and inability to provide end-users
with all necessary tools with most backracking solutions.
- Scalability
Your data center managers require solutions that meet today's
demands and are positioned to grow, scale and be upgraded
as requirements change in the future, without the limitations
of some proprietary systems.

- Centralized management and security
Avocent Digital Desktops bus extension solutions let you
centralize desktop PCs or new form factor blades to a data
center, effectively creating centralized management and
control, reduce desktop heat and clutter, and provide end-users
with all the functionality they require to perform their
jobs. How your IT staff manages more devices more effectively
with less cost and less risk is very important to your success.
To meet the challenges of today's complex environments,
network administrators have adopted a strategy of centralization
that allows for the elimination of redundant devices and
leverages IT staff, allowing companies to cost-effectively
support distributed networks.
- Elimination of problems with M/A/Cs
Frequent Moves/Adds/Changes are common among financial and
trading institutions, and this necessity often creates problems
for space, wiring, and IT configurations that can result
in down time, and requirements for re-wiring. The Avocent
Digital Desktops bus extension used in concert with the
Apcon Intellapatch layer 1 switch allows Citigroup to relocate
users with no equipment or cables to move. The centralized
configuration provides for ease of any device management
and troubleshooting.
- Open architecture
Unlike thin client or analog extension technologies that
provide many of the same benefits of centralized computing
architecture, the Avocent Digital Desktops bus extension
solution is a simply plug-and-play device that operates
with any PCI based computer, and connects from desktop to
data center with basic CAT 5 wiring already installed in
most facilities. This open architecture solution allows
the flexibility to take advantage of emerging technologies
– such as blades – without the worry of jeopardizing
a proprietary solution. Implementing an Avocent bus extension
will address the issues that can help CitiGroup maximize
your IT staff and avoid unnecessary operational costs in
the future.

Our Solution :
By placing the video, audio and USB controller at the desktop and
extending the bus to a small footprint Cstation at the desktop,
the user encounters standard user input and output identical to
the experience of having a local PC or workstation, but with all
of the noise, heat, desktop clutter and data storage in a safe and
controlled environment. Compared to standard KVM extension, the
video is superior using digital bus extension because there is no
extension of analog signals to the monitor; users also have the
options of DVI and multi-head video, audio, USB and an expansion
slot, plus all peripheral devices that would normally be connected
to the PC without limitations of simple KVM.
There are four CStation products to choose from:
- C1000 – Up to 160m of Cat6
connection to the desktop, with PCI expansion capabilities.
- L1000 – Up to 160m of Cat6
connection to the desktop, without PCI expansion capabilities.
- C1100 – Up to 800m of fiber
connection to the desktop, with PCI expansion capabilities.
- L1100 – Up to 800m of fiber
connection to the desktop, without PCI expansion capabilities.
The Cstation C1000 is the larger 10x10 form factor appliance in
the Cstation family series of products, and uses standard CAT5,
CAT5e or CAT6 or Fiber Optic cabling for connectivity. With a secondary
PCI slot, the C1000 offers the ability to add support for PC Cards,
SCSI, firewire, multiple serial ports, and multiple monitors.
• Connectivity – CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 or Fiber Optic cabling
• Scalability - Support USB, PS/2 and most multimedia devices
• Compact Design – The 10x10 footprint eliminates wasted
desktop space, supporting up to 100 pounds of monitor weight
• Support – With the ability to utilize multi-head graphics
cards, the C1000 can deliver true digital video for up to 4 monitors;
1.1 compliant devices
The Cstation L-series is the smallest form factor Cstation available,
measuring an 8x8 footprint, and transmits over fiber optic or copper
cabling between the remote PC and desktop appliance.
• Connectivity – Dual strand fiber optic cabling
• Scalability – With a PCI slot in the rear of the unit
for video support, and two USB connectors for peripheral devices
• Compact Design – The small footprint can easily be
mounted either on the back of a flat panel monitor with standard
VESA mounts, or underneath a desk or cabinet for optimal freedom
of desktop space
• Support – 1.1 compliant devices
The C-Arm mounting kit provides a completely
clear desktop that looks great and allows for more usable workspace
for your traders. The Cstation is easily removed from this mount
to provide hassle free maintenance.
The C-bracket mounting kit provides a similar
mounting solution to the C-Arm however it’s used to mount
the Cstation to the back of a Flat Panel resting on a desk stand
rather than an articulating arm mount.
***Both mounts only apply to the “L”
series Cstation, the C-series will not fit
